ABOUT US

Zachary

I figured out at a very young age that my imagination was a little more active than most of the other kids, but it wasn't until my senior year of high school that I actually put some of that imagination to paper. I was tasked with writing a one page short story for a Sci-Fi class and that one page quickly turned into three. While the story itself was pretty awful, I loved writing it; so much so that I continued to write through college as a hobby and I even took a few creative writing courses, though I majored in history. Still, during all that time, I never felt my writing skills were proficient enough to be shared with the world.

DeeAnn

I have loved fantasy and science fiction since I first watched reruns of the original Star Trek with my big brother, Jim, on his trips home from college. He also brought books written by Isaac Asimov and Kurt Vonnegut that stirred my imagination and fired up my love of reading. It was after finishing "The Hobbit" my freshman year in college, though, that I realized I'd found a world that I wanted to be a part of. Although I will read almost anything from Dickens to Hardy, Ellis Peters to Saul Bellow, my true love is fantasy and always will be.

If I haven't read at least three books in a week, it's a slow week for me. It's my ultimate escape, both relaxing and exciting at the same time. There was a time in high school when I thought writing a book might be fun but until Zach actually made me put pen to paper (or fingers to the computer keys) I didn't really think I could do it. I'm still amazed when I realize that we have written a complete trilogy. Along with writing and reading, I enjoy gardening, quilting, baking and almost any craft you can think of. Finding time to do all the things I want to is my biggest challenge these days!

The Team

First and foremost, both of the authors know that this was a team project that couldn't have been accomplished by either of them separately. Zach brings the creativity, imagination, and versatility to the books, while DeeAnn has the writing skill, diligence, and passion that kept the project going. We also think it's important to acknowledge those other important people who helped make our dream of creating these books and website a reality.

A special thanks to Claire Zamora, daughter to DeeAnn and older sister to Zachary, who has been a big help acting as editor and critic for the series and providing the authors with an alternative perspective. Another special thanks to Susan, who absolutely blew us away with her level of dedication in editing our third book in the series so quickly, we are so grateful to the both of you.

We also want to acknowledge all those people who were kind enough to read drafts of our books before they were ever in print. Josh & Kelsey, Nate, Hannah, Lauren, Pat, Scott, and for everyone else who was willing to give our stories a chance!

It was in the fall of 2011 that I began pestering my soon to be coauthor into doing some writing of her own. For years we had both enjoyed reading some of the same books and now I wanted to see if she would enjoy creative writing the same way I did. When I finally convinced her to write a short paragraph for one of my short stories, we were both happy with how good it sounded. From there things just started rolling downhill, the short story was starting to look like a novel, and now the novel has turned into our first series!

No I don't wake up everyday wanting to write, in fact, it's not even my favorite hobby. I work as a park ranger which keeps me outdoors most days of the week. I enjoy hiking, running, snow shoeing, movies, board games, reading, food, socializing with friends, deep discussions, the usual things.
